What We Believe

Our Beliefs

With the universal Christian Church we believe in and serve the Triune God:

  • God the Father, creator of all that exists;
  • God the Son, Jesus Christ, fully God and fully human, who in His sinless humanity suffered and died for the sins of all human beings, who rose again on the third day and sits at the right hand of the Father, and who will return to the earth victorious on the last day.
  • God the Holy Spirit, who creates and sustains faith in Jesus Christ as Lord, through God’s Word and the sacraments.

These three persons of the Trinity are co-equal and co-eternal, One God!

We accept and teach the Bible-based teachings of Martin Luther whose teaching can be summarized with three short phrases:

  • Grace alone: the heart of man is inherently sinful and man cannot come to salvation by any work of his own.  He is called and is saved solely by the grace of God.
  • Faith alone: by His substitute suffering and death for all people of all time, Jesus Christ purchased and won forgiveness for sin and eternal life for them.  Those who hear this Gospel message and believe it entirely by faith are saved.
  • Scripture alone: the Bible, Old Testament and New Testament, is the infallible, inerrant, and inspired Word of God.  Through the Word, and only through His Word, God reveals His Law and Gospel to us for salvation.  It is the sole rule and norm for Christian doctrine and way of life.

We confess the following “symbols” contained in the Book of Concord of 1580 as correct presentation and true exposition of Christian doctrine, drawn from and in full agreement with the Holy Scriptures:

  • The three Ecumenical Creeds: the Apostle’s Creed, the Nicene Creed and the Athanasian Creed;
  • The Unaltered Augsburg Confession;
  • The Apology of the Unaltered Augsburg Confession;
  • The Smalcald Articles;
  • Luther’s Catechisms, Large and Small;
  • The Formula of Concord.

Social Issues

Human Life: “In the beginning” God created all life from nothing, and continues to do so as he sustains creation.  The Triune God is the Author of human life and as such no man has the authority to determine when life should begin or end.  We believe that human life begins at the moment of conception.

Marriage: God’s design for marriage is that one man and one woman be united as one flesh.  One man and one woman complement each other and form the only ideal unit for the procreation and rearing of children.

Homosexuality: Homosexuality is a sin.  However it is no more, nor no less grave than any other sin.  Any sin left un-repented leads to death.

Stewardship of Creation: God placed man as “ruler” over the rest of creation.  That means man should “use” but not “abuse” what God has created.
